Unique solutions during prosthesis surgery - Attila Juhász's healing story
Attila Juhász, an active young man, experienced hip pain from an injury that plagued him for a year, until he found the Budapest Musculoskeletal Private Outpatient Clinic.
From injury to a long-term problem
After the young man broke his hip, he went from doctor to doctor as the treatment he received was not satisfactory. Attila's pain after his badly healed left hip fracture did not go away and he felt it was unacceptable that his activities and sporting life were not what they used to be. Attila was a regular sportsman: scuba diving, skydiving, paragliding, skiing and motorcycling. He wanted a solution to his complaints as soon as possible. Finally, he heard about Dr. Péter Molnár through friends and turned to him for help.
Based on the patient's X-ray medical report, Dr. Péter Molnár immediately recommended a hip prosthesis instead of the previously implanted Z-joint.
What is a Z-segment?
The hip screw is able to compress the fracture but behaves dynamically during healing. Both the dynamics and the prevention of post-operative rotation of the hip screw are ensured by a locking screw placed inside the pin.
Dr. Péter Molnár therefore recommended the removal of this anterior cruciate ligament, as the previous fracture had not healed properly. Attila agreed to the hip replacement surgery. Dr. Péter Molnár planned to solve the problem with a longer than average revision prosthetic stem, a total hip prosthesis.
Because of the previous injury, prosthetic surgery was technically more challenging than a basic operation for hip joint wear.
The Hip Replacement Surgery Procedure
The surgical procedure is fundamentally determined by the type of surgery (implantation or revision), the selected prosthesis type (cemented or cementless), and the surgical technique. Our specialists apply the currently most modern and effective minimally invasive surgical technique, which is performed without muscle cutting, using the so-called muscle-sparing method. This is a special soft tissue-sparing surgical procedure that enables much faster postoperative rehabilitation with less pain.
During hip prosthesis implantation surgery, the diseased femoral head is removed from the femur. The acetabulum in the pelvic bone is decartilaged and reamed with a series of hemispherical reamers. A metal, hemispherical acetabular component is implanted here, into which a hardened plastic liner is placed, or a plastic acetabular component is cemented in with bone cement (bone adhesive). Then the metal stem of the prosthesis is also implanted into the medullary cavity of the femur. This is done either by a cementless method, where it wedges into the bone, or by a cemented method (with bone cement). A metal or ceramic femoral head is placed on the stem component, which moves in the plastic part of the acetabulum, thus replacing the function of the original joint.
After the operation
Attila was surprised, based on his previous experience at other institutions, to be able to walk with a walking frame the day after his successful surgery.
On the morning of the second day, they took away my walking frame, I was given two sticks. Everything was noticeably easier. I move easily, no pain.
Attila also asked Dr. Péter Molnár if it is not a problem that he is so easy on his body, his legs are the same length, he has no pain. Dr. Péter Molnár cheerfully reassured him that this was correct, and that it should be.
Attila also praised the care:
The hospital was like a hotel, everyone had a very good attitude, everyone was nice to me, everything was clean.
According to Dr. Péter Molnár, Attila's case is a real success story, as he had a very young, complex problem, but because of his active life it was extremely important to end the pain and complaints as soon as possible and to be able to move freely again. The Budapest Musculoskeletal Private Outpatient Clinic gave her this opportunity and a quality, permanent solution.
