X-ray Examination in Budapest
X-ray examination is available on-site at the Óbuda Musculoskeletal Private Outpatient Clinic
We welcome you to our Budapest location for patient-friendly X-ray examinations. The digital X-ray we use meets current standards with lower radiation exposure to the body. During examinations, our assistants pay maximum attention to patient radiation protection by using appropriate protective equipment!
What is an X-ray examination?
A German professor, Wilhelm Röntgen, discovered an invisible radiation in 1895 that can penetrate solid objects. The X-ray radiation named after him remains one of today’s most important imaging examinations, forming the basis of X-rays.
X-rays penetrate the body. Different tissues absorb or scatter the rays to varying degrees. In conventional X-rays, the rays passing through the body display the X-ray shadow of individual organs on a film placed behind the body. The digital X-ray used in our clinic produces images without film, with images immediately transferred to a computer. This is a more environmentally conscious solution, as it eliminates the need for hazardous chemicals to develop films.
The images clearly show changes in bones and joints, among other things. X-rays also enable precise diagnostics of conditions involving calcification.
In cases of musculoskeletal complaints, especially when the problem results from an injury, it is often necessary to take an X-ray of the affected body part. The imaging diagnostic examination is then key to differential diagnosis: it supports, refines, or even refutes the diagnosis suspected by the specialist’s physical examination with images.
Specialists working in the fields of orthopedics and rheumatology may also request X-ray examinations when there is no trauma or injury underlying the musculoskeletal complaint. For example, in cases of lower back pain or knee pain, an appropriate X-ray can provide information about the condition of the bones, intervertebral discs, joints, and cartilage.
For which musculoskeletal problems is X-ray imaging recommended?
In case of accident or injury, to clarify the risk of bone fracture (foot, ankle, knee, thigh, hip, pelvic bone, spine, hand, wrist, shoulder, collarbone). In case of spinal pain (lower back pain, neck pain).
In case of knee pain
To examine a body part that has not healed properly or continues to cause complaints after previous trauma or surgery.
- Spinal column: cervical, lumbar, full back
- Hand, fingers
- Wrist
- Forearm, upper arm
- Elbow
- Shoulder
- Collarbone
- Facial and paranasal sinuses
- Skull
- Ribs
- Hip and pelvis
- Femur
- Knee
- Lower leg
- Ankle
- Foot, toes
How is the X-ray examination performed?
X-rays are taken based on specialist recommendation. In case of musculoskeletal complaints, our specialist physician questions the patient according to BMM’s examination protocol, then performs a physical examination. Based on these, the physician decides on the necessity of imaging diagnostic examination(s). The type and direction of the image to be taken is determined by the specialist. Images are taken from at least two directions, but for the shoulder and ankle, among others, from three directions for precise diagnostics of possible abnormalities.
The X-ray examination does not require special preparation: you may eat, drink, and take medication at any time before the examination. During the examination, the examined body part must be exposed; clothing, jewelry, and other accessories must be removed. Depending on the complaint and the body part being examined, the examination may be performed in standing, sitting, or lying position. The X-ray examination takes a few minutes.
Radiologist specialists evaluate the completed X-ray images, which we send to you by email within 72 hours after the examination.
Our physicians can review the X-ray images immediately after the examination and may recommend necessary treatment or refer the patient for additional examinations.
Protection is important
X-ray examination involves radiation that is harmful to the human body (in large doses). However, the radiation affecting the body during the examination does not pose a serious risk. Nevertheless, patient safety is of paramount importance to our private outpatient clinic, so we take every precaution to minimize radiation exposure, and our specialists only recommend the examination when absolutely necessary.
X-ray examinations are always performed in accordance with hygiene regulations, with regular disinfection.
Contraindications for X-ray examination
X-ray examinations can be performed for any age group. However, for pregnant women and young children, only in very justified cases, upon specialist recommendation. It is important to always inform the physician about pregnancy or suspected pregnancy!
How can you register for the examination?
X-ray examinations are performed with or without specialist recommendation, by prior appointment. We can even take X-rays immediately after the specialist examination!
