LIPOGEMS® Stem Cell Therapy
What is stem cell therapy?
The use of stem cells in medicine is no longer a new concept; however, advances in medical science and technology have now made the theory a reality. LIPOGEMS® is one of the safest forms of stem cell therapy, employing a truly modern, closed-system technology. This specialized treatment arrived in Hungary in 2016, where it is performed by only a limited number of orthopedic specialists. The treatment is carried out under surgical conditions, with exceptional care and thoroughness, as a day-case procedure. This means that after the intervention, there is no need for hospitalization; the patient can go home after just a few hours of rest.
LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy is performed in Budapest, in a unique manner, by one of our clinic’s experienced physicians. The specialist consultation and examination prior to the therapy, as well as the follow-up after the intervention, are now provided at the Budapest Musculoskeletal Private Clinic for all patients. The treatment itself takes place at an external location, at our private partner institution equipped for day-case surgical interventions.
Requirements for consultation
The following documentation must be available at the scheduled examination appointment:
- Recent X-ray report of the affected body part (both imaging and written report). In case of lower limb involvement, weight-bearing X-rays are required.
- If an MRI scan has been previously performed on the affected body part, its results (both written and imaging materials).
- If the affected body part has been previously operated on, hospital documentation and discharge summary of the surgical intervention.
Our specialist will provide information about the exact cost of LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy during the consultation. For approximate information, please contact our reception.
Why should you visit our institutions?

4. We provide comprehensive rehabilitation, which is the key to more effective recovery. The focus is on physiotherapy, therapeutic massage, physical therapy: ultrasound therapy, shockwave therapy, laser treatment, etc.
5. Flexible payment methods are available: in addition to cash, you can pay by bank card or debit card.
What is LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy?
LIPOGEMS® is a single-use, closed-system device approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration – USA) for processing and immediate injection of adipose tissue using a revolutionary new method. The essence of this new technology is that it preserves the complete regenerative microenvironment of the removed adipose tissue, thus containing not only stem cells but also growth factors, supporting cells (pericytes), and healing proteins (cytokines).
The uniqueness and revolutionary nature of the method lies in the fact that, using a closed, sterile device, the fat undergoes minimal, enzyme-free processing. This involves the gradual size reduction of adipose tissues, as well as the removal of pro-inflammatory oils, blood residues, and other unnecessary cell types, achieved solely through physical effects and various filters. The procedure also ensures cell activation for the immediate and broad-spectrum initiation of regenerative effects.
It is important to note that LIPOGEMS® is not a simple—or exclusively—stem cell therapy. It is much more a comprehensive regenerative treatment.
Who is LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy recommended for?
The applicability of the therapy is very broad, both in healthcare and in the beauty industry.
The treatment is recommended for the following conditions:
- Treatment of osteoarthritis, bone and cartilage tissue reconstruction (cartilage and bone degeneration, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, etc.)
- Cartilage and ligament injuries
- Other sports injuries
- Pain reduction
In all cases, it is essential to consult with the specialist performing the intervention about the treatment.
LIPOGEMS® therapy may offer a solution for patients who:
- Despite their younger age, suffer from painful complaints; surgery is not yet indicated, but other conservative treatment options are not particularly effective.
- Have been struggling with symptoms of cartilage degeneration for a long time but definitely want to avoid prosthesis implantation.
- Cannot undergo surgery due to internal medicine or other health reasons, making prosthetics impossible.
How is the intervention performed?
LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy is performed by a trained and experienced orthopedic specialist as a day-case surgical procedure. Details regarding the location and timing can be clarified in person with the specialist performing the intervention at their private practice.
A specialist consultation and examination are required in all cases before the intervention. At the pre-booked appointment, please bring your medical documentation, documentation of previous treatments related to your complaint, and imaging materials from X-ray/CT/MRI scans of the affected body part (a written report is not sufficient). During the consultation, we also provide information about the details of the intervention, possible risks, and expected outcomes.
During LIPOGEMS® stem cell therapy, under local anesthesia, an appropriate amount of adipose tissue is painlessly removed, usually from the lower abdominal wall. From this, the regenerative tissue is extracted in a special, closed system and immediately injected into the area of the affected body part. The intervention is simple but a multi-step process, so it typically takes approximately 45–60 minutes in the operating room, followed by 1–2 hours of rest.
After the intervention
After the surgery, unloading, resting, and icing of the treated joint are recommended for a few days. In some cases, non-steroidal pain relief medication may also be used. Even during these few days, regular movement of the joint is very important, using an extremely gentle technique. Subsequently, gradual but regular exercise of the treated body part is recommended.
Follow-up is recommended 1, 6, and 12 weeks after surgery. Physiotherapy is not necessary in all cases; however, it can have a positive effect on healing and regeneration for everyone.
