Fitmummy Prenatal Physiotherapy

Fitmummy PRENATAL Training: Prenatal exercise

Exercise during pregnancy has numerous benefits, therefore, with the exception of contraindicated conditions, regular physical activity is recommended for all expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy.

Let’s look at some positive effects, without claiming to be exhaustive:

  • Reduces the likelihood of developing lower back pain, or its severity if already present
  • Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles helps prevent various organ prolapses and the development of incontinence.
  • Accelerates postpartum regeneration
  • Reduces the risk of developing gestational diabetes and preeclampsia
  • Helps avoid excessive weight gain
  • Reduces the risk of thrombosis

Absolute contraindications for exercise during pregnancy:

  • Placenta previa
  • Bleeding
  • Twin pregnancy, if there is a risk of premature birth
  • Heart or lung disease
  • Cervical shortening
  • Open cervix
  • Preeclampsia

Relative contraindications (subject to specialist medical assessment):

  • Anemia
  • Significant overweight
  • Poorly controlled high blood pressure
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Type I diabetes
  • Pathological malnutrition
  • Fetal growth restriction

A prerequisite for participating in Fitmummy Training is a pregnancy of at least 12 weeks, along with a certificate issued by an obstetrician-gynecologist, which must be brought to the first appointment!

During the first consultation, we thoroughly listen to the expectant mother’s complaints and inquire about her previous musculoskeletal problems. This is followed by a detailed musculoskeletal physical assessment, during which we observe her posture, examine muscle strength, flexibility, and the position of bony structures (manual therapy examination). After the examination, we discuss the existing problems and establish a therapeutic plan.

Key elements of Fitmummy Training:

  • Breathing exercises
  • Venous exercises
  • Posture-correcting, core-strengthening spinal exercises
  • Pelvic floor exercises
  • Upper and lower limb muscle strengthening exercises
  • Mobilization exercises
  • Balance-improving exercises
  • Relaxation
  • Use of SMR tools

The exercise program is tailored to the expectant mother’s needs, capacity for exertion, and current condition.

Physiotherapy treatments are supplemented with various soft tissue manual therapy techniques, which are highly effective, for example, in treating common lower back pain.

With Barvicsenko manual therapy techniques, we can also achieve significant improvement in reducing pain around the pubic bone, sacrum, and lower back. Manual therapy can be started after the 12th week of pregnancy, provided there are no contraindications, and can be performed until delivery if symptoms persist.

Taping is also available to relieve the growing belly and lower back.

In cases of sacral or pubic bone pain, a customized NRX orthosis can also be applied!

Treatment is always available individually and is led by a qualified physiotherapist!

Fitmummy Postnatal Training

The 3-step Fitmummy training program aids in regeneration during the postpartum period. We not only address the issue of diastasis recti but also aim to restore the muscle strength of the weakened pelvic floor muscles and functionally restore the entire abdominal wall and lower back region, known as the core’s muscle corset.

Complete regeneration can only be achieved with complex treatment! Both isolated abdominal and pelvic floor muscle training are insufficient.

We welcome mothers with complaints after the puerperium, as well as those with chronic issues.

During the first consultation, an anamnesis is taken, we listen to the complaints, followed by a detailed posture analysis, and then perform various tests to assess musculoskeletal deviations. We examine the extent of abdominal muscle separation, transverse abdominal muscle function, soft tissue adhesions, and the condition of the scar in case of a C-section.

Based on the findings of the examination, we compile a personalized regeneration program.

Our goals include practicing correct breathing techniques, strengthening the pelvic floor, activating weakened deep stabilizing core muscles (transverse abdominal muscle), improving posture, reducing lower back pain, enhancing overall well-being, and assisting in returning to sports.

The Fitmummy training consists of 3 stages, which include the following elements:

  • 1. Foundation: practicing correct breathing techniques, pelvic floor exercises, transverse abdominal muscle activation
  • 2. Core training: targeted core muscle strengthening in various body positions, adhering to the principle of gradual progression
  • 3. Practicing the correct execution of movement patterns taken from daily life

The exercise program is supplemented with numerous other therapeutic options: manual therapy (Barvicsenko manual therapy), FDM, Kinesio TAPE application, fascia release (loosening of muscle fascia) with tools such as: cupping, flossing, Hypervolt treatment, instrumental manual therapy.

Treatment for C-section scars is also available in our clinic, which includes various soft tissue manual therapy treatments: scar massage, supplemented with instrumental fascia release (fascia release), cupping, flossing treatment, Kinesio TAPE application, Penczel stick, dermaroller, fascia blaster treatment. We provide lifestyle advice to our clients.

Soft tissue adhesions due to scars can cause numerous musculoskeletal complaints, so it is definitely worth treating them!

Tightness of the connective tissue fascia of the pelvic floor muscles often develops after an episiotomy, which can be treated, and we will learn how to do this during the treatments.

The presence of the baby does not hinder the treatment. After each session, we send homework to aid home practice.

We welcome everyone who wishes to regain their good general condition from before childbirth!
