Infant hip ultrasound examination in Budapest
At what age is an infant ultrasound examination necessary?
The examination is recommended for all babies at 4-6 weeks of age, as the femoral head is cartilaginous at this time, which enables effective ultrasound hip screening.
How is the infant hip ultrasound examination performed?
The examination is completely painless and not stressful for the baby. At the end of the examination, our physician verbally evaluates the results, and the parent receives a written report. If necessary, we provide assistance and information regarding further steps.

What is the infant hip ultrasound examination used for?
Infant hip ultrasound screening can detect congenital developmental abnormalities that do not yet cause complaints or symptoms, or changes that developed during the perinatal period. The infant ultrasound examination can also detect abnormalities that intrauterine ultrasound examinations cannot yet identify.
The ultrasound examination does not involve pain or other health risks for the infant and can be repeated without limitation. Naturally, no pathological abnormalities are found in most babies.
Who is recommended to have a hip ultrasound screening?
Hip ultrasound screening is recommended for all infants, but it is particularly important if there is a family history of developmental abnormalities such as hip dislocation. The baby’s ultrasound screening examination is also recommended if the baby’s development is delayed compared to average.
