Therapeutic Massage Treatment
What is Therapeutic Massage?
Therapeutic massage is a popular therapy that has been used since ancient times. Today, countless variations of it are widespread globally, but all are based on personalized manual treatment.
During the therapy, a trained therapeutic massage therapist applies massage techniques (stroking, rubbing, loosening, etc.) that promote joint regeneration, relax stiff and tight muscles, and alleviate pain by increasing blood flow to the treated area. Therapeutic massage is often recommended as a complementary treatment to physiotherapy, because muscles that have been relaxed and warmed up by massage can be more easily and effectively engaged during exercise.
In our private outpatient clinics, we use several massage methods, which our therapists combine tailored to the patient’s needs:
- Swedish Massage
- Sports Massage
- Relaxation Massage
A special type of therapeutic massage is reflexology, during which our qualified and experienced reflexologist achieves a healing effect on the entire body by massaging reflex points on the soles and feet.
We specifically apply lymphatic drainage massage therapy for the treatment of lymphedema and lymphatic circulation problems. This therapy, under specialist medical supervision and possibly combined with other treatment methods, can be an effective and natural remedy.
Swedish Massage
In Sweden, the classical Greco-Roman based massage was further developed in the early 19th century. This therapy has since become the most widespread form of massage and the basis for numerous new procedures.
This method aims to massage all muscles of the body. It relaxes muscles, reduces back and spinal pain, enhances metabolic processes, thus accelerating the removal of waste products from the body. By causing local hyperemia, blood circulation increases, the skin regains its original youthful elasticity, and stress-induced effects are reduced.
According to observations by American researchers, traditional Swedish massage can also lead to lasting improvement for patients suffering from inflammatory knee joint disease, or arthritis. More and more doctors recommend therapeutic massage to their arthritis patients in addition to medication. The massage makes the knee more flexible and pliable, which in turn allows the patient to move more easily and more, which can itself lead to healing.
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage is recommended for those seeking a soothing, restful break. The goal of the treatment is specifically stress relief, deep relaxation, and the establishment of physical and mental balance.
This massage is a combination of aromatherapy and Swedish massage, which, thanks to the gliding movements of aromatherapy massage, results in calming, relaxing tranquility.
It is recommended for anyone who wants to escape the stressful everyday life or simply needs some physical and mental peace and harmony.
Sports Massage
Similar to Swedish massage, but more intense and specialized, sports massage primarily aims at the regeneration of sports injuries. It focuses on the problematic area and uses many stretching techniques to increase flexibility. Sports massage alleviates the pain of stiff muscles and helps eliminate fatigue. The goal of the treatment is to accelerate recovery after injuries and reduce muscle swelling. It greatly contributes to the detoxification of the body, relaxing both body and mind.
It is recommended to receive sports massage regularly, but even occasional sessions can greatly help relieve muscle strain.
What is the essence of sports massage?
Muscles with proper tone and flexibility regenerate more easily and quickly, and can withstand greater loads, thus greatly contributing to athletes’ success. However, acidic, tight muscles are prone to injury because they have lost their elasticity. This problem is no longer exclusive to athletes: a sedentary lifestyle, desk work, and stress cause similar tension and stiffness.
Sports massage is highly recommended both before and after sports activities. The purpose of massage before sports is to release the muscles, after which they become more resilient, more capable of exertion, and stronger. The purpose of post-sport massage is muscle regeneration and the prevention of muscle soreness. The goal is to expel waste products from strained tissues.
An important complement to sports massage is muscle-relaxing cream. Massaging these creams into the body enhances muscle oxygen supply and improves blood circulation. It is important to use high-quality, specialized creams that significantly increase the effectiveness of the massage.
