Pre-operative physiotherapy

Unfortunately, the importance of pre-operative physiotherapy is not emphasised today, so patients waiting for surgery are not informed about it.
In the present case we are talking about planned musculoskeletal interventions, such as knee prosthesis/ hip prosthesis, cruciate ligament replacement, rotator cuff injury.Regardless of the region affected, the common feature of these pathologies is the existing movement restriction, muscle weakness, deterioration of proprioception (joint position sense).

It is very important to be aware of the fact that if there is a narrowing of the joint, for example, implanting a prosthesis alone will not solve the problem. There are many treatment options for spondylolisthesis today : regular, professional physiotherapy, soft tissue manipulation techniques, flossing techniques, spitting, physiotherapy treatments.

The rate at which a particular movement restriction is allowed is a matter of constitution, but also depends on the diagnosis, other underlying conditions and the patient's attitude to treatment . In the period before surgery, we should set ourselves the goal of doing our best to improve our own condition. We should take every day as an opportunity to arrive at the operation with as much movement as possible.

In addition, the stretchability of the soft tissues and muscle strength are very important. The better the muscle strength in the affected muscles, the faster the rate of improvement after surgery.

The development of proprioception (joint position sense) starts in the pre-operative period and will be of great importance in the future.

During this period, the patient learns to use the post-operative aid. The patient receives useful advice and is psychologically prepared for the difficult period ahead.

Post-operative physiotherapy

Post-operative physiotherapy is extremely important. We need to improve the loss of movement, muscle strength, muscle balance and proprioception (joint positioning) that has developed or remains. In this case, we have several options: physiotherapy, manual therapy, TAPE taping, flossing, sputum therapy. You can read about rehabilitation after surgery and injuries in a separate post.
