Partial or complete rupture of the Achilles tendon
Partial or Complete Achilles Tendon Rupture
The rupture can be caused by a specific trauma, but in the case of other degenerative lesions, it can also occur during a minor force. The rupture may be partial or complete, with sharp shooting pain at the moment of injury. In the case of a partial rupture, conservative therapy, icing, gentle stretching and appropriate muscle training are recommended. A complete rupture is an indication for surgery, usually followed by 6-9 weeks of cast fixation.
