Patient Testimonials

About

The patient who understands what their problem is will recover faster and easier.

Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár mainly deals with hip and knee joint problems, prosthesis surgery and patients with musculoskeletal accidents. He is also a professional soldier and university lecturer, and regularly attends national and international conferences to exchange knowledge and experience. His love of medicine goes back to his childhood.

“I wanted to be a trauma surgeon since I was in kindergarten, my grandmother told me. I gave it up for a while during medical school because it seemed like the hardest part at the time, and I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon instead. In the end I ended up doing both, and I don’t regret it. These two branches of the medical profession fit together very well. I love surgery, and if you can do what you love, there’s nothing better.”

For him, education is an important part of a medical career. “I love teaching, and I see the future in training the next generation, so that there will always be someone to heal. We need to show medical students how to provide good, professional and interesting care.” And Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár puts this into practice with the following principles:

“The patient is always right, they should be questioned to tell you exactly what hurts, what their complaints are. This helps us to make the diagnosis.” In his opinion, it is also very important to explain to the patient exactly what the disease is, why it might have developed and how it will be treated. “I often find that patients come to the clinic with a complete picture of what is wrong with them, they have had several successful tests, but they don’t understand what is wrong. But here there is time for all that. Patients who understand what their problem is will recover faster and easier.”

Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár also gained special professional experience on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he worked as a trauma surgeon. He also completed an internship at the Ambulance Service in his final year at Semmelweis University and worked as an ambulance doctor for an extra year. “It’s worth a try for anyone involved in patient care. It is an interesting and rewarding experience to be an ambulance driver in Budapest.”

He used to play sports regularly, playing basketball and fencing. In his spare time he skis, sails and rides his motorbike. “NowI’m back to regular exercise, I feel it relaxes and refreshes me. It makes me feel fitter at work too.”
