Personalized, individualized pediatric physiotherapy is often recommended not only to treat diagnosed problems but also to prevent them. The main goals of the therapy are to prevent scoliosis and develop proper posture, as well as to treat flat feet and movement restrictions caused by injuries or illnesses, which can be fully treated during childhood.

The Role of Pediatric Physiotherapy

During childhood, specialized medical screenings and preventive measures play a key role in minimizing the likelihood of future health problems.

Nowadays, an increasing number of children are found to have flat feet and inward-tilting ankles, which are associated with static foot deformities. It is important to strive to correct these abnormalities even in children identified in the early stages, even if the child is not yet complaining of pain. Without physiotherapy, orthotic insoles, and special heel lifts, these conditions will only worsen over time, become permanent, and may even start to cause symptoms. We must always strive to correct a given condition as early as possible and prevent it from becoming more severe!

Poor posture can develop:

  • Due to the reduced strength of the back, abdominal, and pelvic muscles
  • From pain
  • Psychological factors
  • A sudden increase
  • Improper seating (at home and/or at school)
  • A lack of willpower

What types of pediatric physiotherapy do we offer?

  • Movement disorders in infancy, e.g., mobilization of a hip with limited mobility
  • Spinal exercises and posture correction for poor posture; prevention of scoliosis

We distinguish between four types of slouching:

  • Flat back: a condition in which the curvature of the thoracic spine and the lordosis of the lumbar spine are reduced, resulting in a flat back. If left untreated, lower back pain is common in adulthood. This is the most common type of poor posture, occurring when a child’s muscle development does not keep pace with their growth in height.
  • Kypholordotic back, in which the dorsal curvature and the lumbar lordosis are more pronounced than normal.
  • We refer to a kyphotic back when the curvature of the thoracic spine is normal, but the lumbar lordosis is increased.
  • In the case of a kyphotic spine, the curvature of the back extends to part of the lumbar spine as well.

These days, we see many young athletes who visit doctors or physical therapists with some kind of musculoskeletal complaint. Prevention is extremely important for them as well, but existing conditions can also be effectively treated, often using conservative methods. It is definitely recommended that children who lead active lives learn a personalized, easy-to-follow set of physiotherapy exercises, which is essential for preventing pain and deformities and for enhancing athletic performance.

With timely treatment, much pain and daily discomfort can be avoided!

Thanks to customized exercise routines, spectacular results can be achieved after just a few sessions! There is no age limit for pediatric physiotherapy; movement therapy can begin as early as infancy.
