Living without pain: after hip prosthesis
author Dr. Kálmán Ferenc Egyed | 2023 .12.06.
Mrs István Horváth was unable to rest at night due to hip pain, and her quality of life deteriorated significantly. She heard about BMM orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Kálmán Egyed from a friend.
Trust in a doctor often starts when we hear from a friend or family member about the "miracle doctor" who helped them to regain pain-free movement. That's how Mrs István Horváth came to Dr Kálmán Egyed, an orthopedic surgeonat BMM, after she had hip pain to the point where she couldn't sleep. Her daily life was also affected, so she needed a solution.
My friend was in a very, very bad condition," says Mrs István. "I thought that if the doctor could operate on her, I would have complete confidence in him. I can't do that, not even with my children...
So, with her hip complaints that would not go away , Mrs István visited Dr Kálmán Egyed at the BMM, about whom she had heard so many good things. During the orthopedics examination , an X-ray is taken, which allows the specialist to see what is causing the pain. For minor joint degeneration , there are still conservative - or non-surgical - solutions that can reduce symptoms. There are many solutions for rheumatology, or even hyaluronic acid injections. However, the only permanent solution for advanced wear and tear is prosthetic surgery is the only option.
Unfortunately, this was the case with Mrs István.
The hip replacement surgery took place at St Magdalene's Private Hospital. The operation is preceded by a series of tests, known as a "scan", which aims to minimise the risk of surgery. This makes the operation safer, rehabilitation faster and there is no fear of complications.

How did the hip prosthesis surgery take place?
Dr. Kálmán Egyed performed the hip replacement surgery using a so-called anterior approach, muscle displacement technique, which does not actually involve cutting through any muscle layers.
This is the most modern, gentle technique. The hip joint is then replaced with an artificial hip joint, which causes no pain as the bone is no longer friction against the bone.
In Mrs István's case, the bone stock was very good, so she received a cementless prosthesis.
How does rehabilitation begin after hip replacement surgery?
Late in the afternoon the physiotherapists came and we had to take a few steps
- says Mrs István.
Initially, it is only necessary to get out of bed, but intensive rehabilitation starts the day after the operation , so that the patient can return home as independently as possible . The physiotherapists use a walking frame at first, and later elbow crutches to teach the patient how to move, climb stairs, use forbidding movements and rehabilitation movements.
I can do everything around me. I can feed myself, clean, cook, wash, do the dishes.
-says Mrs István.
There are simply no words to describe what a huge difference it makes to live without pain... Don't live with the pain, if there is a way, do the surgery.
