About

Professor at the University of Debrecen, neurologist, psychiatrist, director of the Neurology Clinic for 25 years.

He spends three semesters at the Max Planck Institute in Cologne, one semester in Japan and one in France. He has used his experience abroad to develop his clinic into one of the country’s leading stroke centres, an internationally recognised teaching centre and a research centre for German, Dutch and Japanese doctors. He is a visiting professor at several universities abroad, former president of the European Society of Neurosonology and currently president of the Hungarian Society for Neurology. He has been voted lecturer of the year eight times by his students. He has been awarded numerous honours (Francis Crick, Albert Szentgyörgyi Award of the Order of the Hungarian Republic). Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2016.

The city of Debrecen awarded him the Pro Urbe prize in 2018. His main field of interest is stroke but he also deals with other diseases in the field of neurology. He has written two volumes of short stories, mainly on medicine, entitled “Please dissect me” and “Who the Big Water Swept Away”. The former has been translated into English, German, Romanian and Serbian.
