For patients with a recommendation from a specialist, the ENG examination and EMG examination will continue to be performed.
Unless there is a recommendation from a specialist, there is no possibility of an ENG examination or an EMG examination. In this case, the patient must first undergo a basic examination. After the baseline examination, the need for an ENG-EMG examination is considered.

Dr Vághy does not see patients with general complaints of neurology.

About

Member of the medical dynasty. The family also includes a doctor specialising in hand surgery, a general practitioner, a radiologist and a paediatrician. Music has always been part of his everyday life. His mother played the violin, which became his instrument. His fascination with sound has remained, and he is a great fan of opera and ballet. She is a mother of three, and the fact that this does not limit her in the practice of her profession is mainly due to her supportive husband, who is equally helpful at home and with the children. She runs kilometres a day in their house, on a treadmill and in the nearby woods, guiding the family from there, and has been spinracing for 10 years.

She did not become a physiotherapist after all

I worked with a paediatric neurologist, Dr András Svékus, during my paediatric training at university, and it was thanks to him that I started my professional career. After I graduated from the University of Szeged in 1997 , I worked for two years in Székesfehérvár, at the Neurology Department of the Szent György Hospital of Fejér County, where I specialised in the microscopic examination of cerebrospinal fluid and the care of stroke patients. Later I moved to Pest and from 2000 I continued my professional career at the Jahn Ferenc South Pest Hospital as a student of Prof. Dr. Sámuel Komoly. In the 100-bed ward I gained general experience in neurology and special expertise in the care of patients with Myasthenia Gravis and Multiple Sclerosis. My professional career was interrupted by the birth of my three children. I spent seven years with them at home, and in 2011 I was offered a position at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Honvéd Hospital by Prof. Dr. Róbert Veres. I became a consultant neurologist in the Department of Neurosurgery. Today I am still a neurologist at this hospital. I try to provide high quality care for patients at the hospital, but since I have also been working in a private outpatient clinic, I have to admit that the more time I have to spend with patients and the relaxed and cultured environment make me more efficient.”

There are many exciting areas of neurology

“At university, both our pathophysiology teacher and those he taught on the pathophysiology of inflammation left a deep impression on me. I am now working on my future PhD on neuropathic pain, and I am preparing to publish my hospital experiences in this field. The need for cooperation between neurology and neurosurgery is also demonstrated by the EMG ( electromyography) , the subject of my specialisation, which is a neurophysiological test. I am also responsible for intraoperative neuromonitoring, which is what the neurosurgery department of the hospital relies on me for.”

Alternatives are important

I started practicing traditional Chinese medicine between the birth of my children. I was attracted to the fact that I could be directly effective with evidence-based medicine, using acupuncture needles with skill. I graduated from the University of Pécs Department of Complementary Medicine with a two-year accredited training course in “Acupuncture and Coupling Techniques” and worked as an associate of Prof Dr Gabriella Hegyi at the Yamamoto Institute.

However, I always put traditional medicine first, and if that fails, I offer the possibilities of complementary medicine.

Since 2019, I have been the National Superintendent General of Complementary Medicine and I was elected Secretary General of MAOT in 2022.

Let’s have fun

“I know my place in the world, I’m happy with my life. I’m an empath, I help where I can. I like to gather people around me, and once they are there, I take care of them for at least a few bites – be it physical, mental or spiritual.”

I am currently working at the Sleep Diagnostics Centre of the Hungarian Defence Forces Medical Centre. I am continuing my neurophysiological training there.

I pay special attention to the aetiological factors of “restless leg syndrome” and I regularly perform neurophysiological tests.
