Seeking a more streamlined waist and an enhanced feminine contour?
You’re not alone in this quest. Many share this aspiration. Fortunately, with advancements in medical procedures, the desired “Barbie-like” elegance is now a realistic goal for many.

Why is partial rib removal surgery a better choice than flared rib removal?
Many of us aspire for a well-defined physique, investing time and energy in diets and intense workouts. However, there’s a point where these efforts don’t seem to make the waist any slimmer. This challenge often ties back to the nature of our skeletal anatomy.
While lifestyle choices like exercise and diet can do wonders, they can’t change our bone structure. When such limitations are met, surgical options come into the picture. Rib removal surgery as a potential solution.
Historically in medical procedures, flared rib removal has been a popular choice for those seeking a slimmer waist.
- But this method poses several health risks, such as leaving the kidneys without the natural protection of the ribs.
- Moreover, full rib removal is a significant procedure that can be taxing on the body. This brings us to floating rib reduction, which stands out as a safer alternative.
The Essence of the Procedure and its Benefits:
This surgical approach prioritizes the patient’s safety, ensuring no interference with the 10th and 11th floating ribs. Instead, the focus is on a partial removal of the false ribs.
To break it down, this means removing a 5 cm piece from both the 9th and 10th ribs on each side, following the midclavicular line. Most patients report minimal pain, with a relatively quick recovery time.
The outcome? A beautifully tapered lower rib cage, bringing the “Barbie” silhouette within reach.
Thanks to techniques pioneered by Dr. János Görög, a leading thoracic surgeon, many have successfully achieved a more refined waistline
Elevate Your Natural Beauty with Body Sculpting:
This particular rib removal surgery is ideal for those who already have a slim or average build. It’s especially recommended for those aiming to reshape a more rectangular waist. The result is a harmonious body ratio, achieved in a relatively short span of time.
And it’s worth noting: this cosmetic rib reduction isn’t just for women. It’s a fantastic option for men and transgender individuals looking to enhance their silhouette.
The Process of rib removal surgery
Like all surgical interventions, partial rib removal is preceded by a personal consultation with the surgeon. Subsequent to this, a chest X-ray is taken, and a general examination is required. If the thoracic surgeon, Dr. János Görög, does not detect any pathological anomalies, then the body sculpting surgery can proceed:
- Before the rib removal surgery, the patient receives a dose of antibiotics to prevent potential infections.
- The surgery is performed under general anesthesia with the patient in a supine position.
- Dr. János Görög, the thoracic surgeon, makes a 5 cm incision in the area between the ninth and tenth ribs. He removes 5 centimeters from both the left and right sides of the patient’s 9th and 10th ribs along the midclavicular line.
- A drain tube is placed in the incision to evacuate any potential fluid or air accumulation. This tube is removed in the hospital the day after the rib removal surgery.
- The incision is closed using surgical sutures by the end of the procedure.
The body sculpting procedure generally takes about an hour. Post-surgery, a 2-night stay in a private hospital is recommended.

Post-Operative Care and Information
- A waterproof adhesive bandage will be placed on the incision. This is crucial as the wound should not come into contact with water until the day after the stitches are removed.
- The stitches will be taken out 2 weeks post-operation. Following their removal, it’s recommended to apply a wound-healing silicone patch. This patch aids in quicker and more aesthetic healing.
- After the removal of the stitches, it’s advisable to wear a special corset. This ensures that the waist achieves a truly slender and aesthetically pleasing shape.
- It’s wise to rest and avoid strenuous activities until the stitches are removed. During these 2 weeks, it’s not recommended to work or drive.
- A follow-up examination is scheduled a month after the stitches are taken out. Another check-up is due in the 3rd month post-surgery, during which an X-ray will also be taken.
As with all surgical procedures, partial rib removal for body sculpting has its risks. While the chances are minimal, there’s the possibility that the pleura might get injured, leading to pneumothorax (air trapped in the chest) in the patient. There might also be minor postoperative bleeding.
Swift Recovery
Compared to the removal of floating ribs, the recovery time for the reduction of false ribs is slightly shorter. There isn’t a pronounced rehabilitation period for this surgical type. It’s essential, as previously mentioned, that the patient refrains from strenuous activities until the stitches are removed.
After the rib removal surgery, lighter physical activities, such as running, swimming, and cycling, can be resumed within 1-2 months. A complete return to previous lifestyles is possible from the 3rd month post-operation.
Wearing a corset becomes especially important after the stitches are removed, typically lasting between 3-6 months. The thoracic surgeon will provide detailed guidance on this aspect.
