Paediatric orthopaedic screening tests - when and what should you have checked?
4-6 weeks an ultrasound hip examination in infancy is timely. Infant hip screening can detect and correct hip dysplasia early.
after 1 year of age a general orthopaedic check-up is recommended. When your child is able to take his or her first independent steps, a comprehensive orthopaedic examination is recommended to assess the feet, posture, gait and knee alignment.
After the age of 4 a repeat general paediatric orthopaedic check-up is necessary. As the gait improves and the daily use of shoes improves, a repeat examination is recommended to check the gait, posture, ankle and knee inclination and, if necessary, to correct them to ensure that the correct posture is established by school age.
After the age of 6, at the beginning of school age, a spinal screening is recommended to check posture, the degree of scoliosis and correct it with appropriate therapy.
