Infant hip ultrasound in Budapest
At what age should an ultrasound scan be performed on an infant?
The test for all babies is recommended at 4-6 weeks of age, because then the head of the femur is cartilaginous, which allows effective ultrasound hip screening.
How is an infant hip ultrasound scan performed?
The examination is completely painless and does not cause stress for the baby. At the end of the examination, our doctor will provide a verbal assessment of the results, which will also be recorded in writing for the parents. If necessary, they will also provide guidance and information on the next steps.

What is an infant hip ultrasound scan for?
Infant hip ultrasound screening can detect congenital abnormalities that do not yet cause any complaints or symptoms, as well as lesions that developed during the perinatal period. Infant hip ultrasound can also detect abnormalities that may not yet be visible on prenatal ultrasound scans.
Ultrasound examination does not cause pain or pose any health risk to the baby, and it can be repeated as often as necessary. Of course, in most babies no abnormalities are found.
Who is hip ultrasound screening recommended for?
Hip ultrasound screening is recommended for all babies, but it is particularly important if there is a family history of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Ultrasound screening is also recommended if there is any concern about the baby’s musculoskeletal development or hip maturation.
