The difference between physiotherapy and physiotherapy

A physiotherapy means healing with natural energies. This is a summary term. It includes physiotherapy and physiotherapy treatments.

A physiotherapy only physical energies is used in healing. This includes electro-, hydro- and thermotherapy treatments.

Areas of physiotherapy

  • Electrotherapy: electricity is used for treatments.
  • Phototherapy: exploits the therapeutic effects of light energy (laser therapy, bioptron therapy, heliotherapy: exploits the beneficial effects of solar radiation)
  • Hydrotherapy: bath treatments, hot and cold water compresses, wraps
  • Thermotherapy: mud baths, sauna, paraffin treatment, etc.
  • Mechanotherapy: physiotherapy, therapeutic massage, underwater jet massage, UH treatment, shock wave therapy
  • Balneotherapy: medicinal water baths, drinking cures, mud treatments
  • Dietetics

The aim of physiotherapy

The different diseases alleviate symptoms or eliminate the causes. Pain relief, inflammation reduction, relief of symptoms of respiratory diseases, e.g. through phototherapy or thermotherapy.
It can also be used in rheumatology, orthopaedics and traumatology aftercare.

Physiotherapy - Shockwave therapy

The course of physiotherapy

It is essential to keep the area to be treated free and the patient comfortable, as a session of 20, 30 or even 60 minutes can also be.

These treatments are not painful. During electric current therapy, there is a pinching, stabbing sensation under the electrode. Redness and mild itching may occur in this area as the electric current can dry the skin. In this case, it may be worth applying a lotion to the area at home. Some treatments do not feel the current or heat. Examples include UH and laser treatments.

Side effects of physiotherapy

Treatments in the neck area can raise blood pressure in people who are prone to it.

The treatments should not be used in areas with extreme varicose veins due to their circulatory effect.

Treatments should not be used over metal porcelain because they can loosen it and move it out of place.

No treatment can be given for malignant tumours. They can cause the tumour cells to spread and metastasise, due to their circulatory enhancing effect.

Physiotherapy treatments

Shock wave treatment

The shockwave interacts with the tissue and has a healing effect on the body: it accelerates regeneration, stimulates cell growth, reduces pain and helps restore mobility. The shockwave is an acoustic wave that delivers high energy to painful points, thus reduces pain, speeds up healing, the regeneration of tendons and tissues. The therapy has a local circulatory enhancing effect. As a result, inflammation reducing factors are increased in the treated area, thus speeding up the healing process. Indications e.g.: shoulder pain, tennis elbow, golf elbow, muscle pain, chronic tendonitis, calcification, diabetic foot ulcer treatment...

Physiotherapy - Ultrasound treatment

Ultrasound treatment

In therapeutic ultrasound therapy, the three benefits of ultrasound are used. Its mechanical action induces micromassage in the tissues, which increases blood flow and stimulates lymphatic circulation.

The thermal effect warms and relaxes the area, which relieves pain. Its chemical action increases the oxygen supply to the treated area, dilating the blood vessels. All in all, ultrasound therapy is an excellent muscle relaxant, pain-relieving treatment that naturally stimulates the healing process.

The treatment is mainly indicated for arthrosis, but it is also effective for muscle sprains, muscle pain, sports injuries, tendon adhesions and tendon sheath lesions, bone growths, tendon shrinkage.

Electrotherapy - TENS treatment

Our clinics are equipped with electrotherapy devices that allow us to effectively tailor the treatment package to the patient's individual needs for faster recovery.

The acronym TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Neuro-Stimulation, which means electrical nerve stimulation through the skin. It is a low-frequency electrotherapy that can be used to stimulate both weakened muscles and less well-functioning nerves. By applying the device's blade electrodes to the muscle belly (close to the origin and attachment), muscle contraction is achieved by adjusting the required parameters.

It can be used to prevent the weakening of a muscle that is not being used, to strengthen the muscle further and to treat the nerve in the case of a problem nerve.

The use of low-intensity, short-duration electrical pulses is a safe, side-effect-free way to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. The effectiveness of TENS therapy in the treatment of pain is proven by decades of experience.

Indication: rehabilitation after surgery, treatment of paralysis, stimulation of atrophied muscles.

The therapy also treats disc problems (discus protrusio, discus prolapsus, discus hernia), spinal problems and problems of the limb joints.

Laser treatment

Accelerates the healing of muscle strains, tears and broken bones. It accelerates and triggers the body's healing processes, improves blood and lymphatic circulation and stimulates the regeneration of damaged nerves. Indications: acute and chronic rheumatic diseases, sports injuries, muscle pain, muscle spasm.

Iontophoresis

Using an electric current to deliver medicine directly to the painful, inflamed area. During the treatment, the electric current is applied locally - through the skin - to deliver the anti-inflammatory, pain reliever. Most often, medicated ointments (Voltaren, Fastum, Horse Balm...) or lidocaine are used for these treatments.

Corposano treatment

Pain relieving, muscle relaxant. It can also be used to strengthen and stimulate weakened, atrophied muscles in the same way as selective stimulation. It is also widely used in the beauty industry for its circulation stimulating, anti-wrinkle, regenerating effects.

Selective stimulation current treatment

During this treatment an electrical stimulus is used to induce a physiologically similar contraction of a paralysed or intact, atrophied muscle. This leads to thickening and strengthening of muscle tissue, improves muscle tissue metabolism, helps to restore muscle strength, prevent atrophy and slow down muscle atrophy.

Physiotherapy - Selective stimulation current treatment

Wave massage

Proper blood and lymph circulation is essential for the functioning of the human body. However, today's stressful, sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle weakens and slows down our circulatory system, which can lead to serious problems and diseases. The special wave massage helps and enhances the lymphatic circulation, the cleansing system of the human body, in order to achieve the individual therapeutic goal..
