Lumbago
What is lumbago?
The hexenschuss is sharp and severe low back pain, which occurs as a result of a sudden wrong movement. In English “witch-shot”. It causes the patient to hardly move at all and a so-called "stiffness". pain avoidance posture is hiring.

What causes lumbago?
A sudden, wrong movement causes a nerve pinched and under pressure. The pressure around the nerve root causes sterile inflammation develops, so the pain and movement restriction cannot go away by itself. Because of the pinching, every movement causes severe and sharp pain. Hexenshot usually affects the nerve roots near the spine, so it is typically about lower back pain it's about.
When should you see a doctor?
The witch shot in general causes very severe pain and restriction of movement, which is not really affected by normal painkillers. The internal inflammation is not improved by rest and ointment alone, so it is essential to rheumatologist or orthopaedic specialist to visit.

How can lumbago be treated?
The rheumatologist or orthopaedic specialist makes the diagnosis of Hexenschuss on the basis of a thorough interview and physical examination. A treatment can be divided into two stages: for acute pain relief and long-term movement therapy.
The first step in acute treatment local pain relief and reducing inflammation comes into play. This is usually a local injection containing steroids to help reduce pain and reduce internal sterile inflammation. In addition to the injection, a non-steroidal oral anti-inflammatory tablet available on prescription is often recommended. 1-2 days rest, non-strict bed rest is recommended, after which gentle exercise is necessary.
The anti-inflammatories reduce the inflammation around the pinched nerve, giving space for the segments to re-grow and release the pinch. However, this requires further therapy. This is where longer-term movement-focused therapy begins. From nerve root pressure the disappearance of the spinal segments requires the regression of the vertebral segments. For this special neuro-mobilisation physiotherapy help you. In addition to physiotherapy medical massage and physiotherapy treatments (ultrasound, TENS, laser) are also recommended to relax muscles, reduce pain and promote healing.
How can you prevent the problem from returning?
A pinched nerve, hexenschisis, is always caused by some kind of spinal instability. In order to stabilise the spinal column, it is necessary to create a muscular brace by strengthening the deep back muscles. This can be achieved by regularly performing specific exercises tailored to the individual. The exercises are taught by a qualified physiotherapist. Long-term use of gymnastics can be accompanied by appropriate exercise, sport and a healthy, spine-conscious lifestyle.
