Quadriceps femoris pain
Quadriceps femoris pain
The quadriceps muscle is the only extensor muscle of the knee joint, so it plays an essential role in maintaining an upright posture and walking. The most common injuries are inflammation or tearing of the tendons around the kneecap, bruising or haemorrhaging of the muscle group on external impact, and tearing of the muscle bundle on force. In addition to pain, other symptoms include a protrusion during walking, a decrease in the leaning and kicking phase over time, and instability of the knee joint, which can lead to wear and tear of the knee joint. Rehabilitation depends on the extent of the injury and the patient's current condition, and it is up to the orthopaedic specialist to decide whether conservative treatment is sufficient or whether surgery is necessary.
