Fracture of the pubic bone stalk
Fracture of the pubic bone stalk
In young adults it is more likely to occur in traffic accidents or falls from height. So-called fatigue fractures usually occur in older people, when weakened stems due to osteoporosis can break even after minor trauma. Pain in the groin occurs particularly when lying or sitting, and becomes more intense when walking. Although the injury does not require surgical treatment, the patient should be hospitalised or rehabilitated to prevent complications from prolonged bedriddenness. Physiotherapy should be started as soon as walking ability is achieved.
