The world has opened up again - that's how BMM's dear patient, Piroska Puskás Ottóné, who was leading an active life until chronic joint wear and tear intervened, feels. Conservative and medical solutions no longer helped her hip pain, so she turned to orthopaedic traumatologist Dr. Kálmán Egyed. Four weeks later, after the basic tests, the implant was inserted, which the surgeon performed using a modern muscle displacement technique.

How did you decide to have hip replacement surgery?

One of our dear patients, Red, loved hiking and walking, but over a few years the wear and tear on her hip joints had become so severe that she had to give up places she wanted to visit. The joint pain therefore began to affect her daily life. Before trips, he had to take painkillers.

Conservative treatments: physiotherapy, spa baths, no longer helped. The pain has not gone away.

On the recommendation of a friend, Piroska turned to Dr. Kálmán Egyed.

How was the hip replacement surgery?

After the tests and the exploration, the surgery was performed, during which Piroska received a cementless implant with an anterior exploration using the muscle displacement technique.

The operation under spinal anaesthesia takes about an hour, thanks to BMM's experienced surgeons.
The operation involves penetrating between two layers of muscle to the hip joint without cutting through the muscle. Once the implant is in place, it is checked to make sure it is stable.

What are the benefits of the muscle displacement technique?

Among other things, there is less pain, faster rehabilitation and more freedom of movement. No muscle is even partially separated. -says Dr Kálmán Egyed.

Faster rehabilitation is also very important for the patient's life - they can walk after the operation and after a few weeks of regular exercise and careful movement, they can return to their old life - the life they had before the joint pain.

Because the muscles that help you walk are not affected, your gait will be more harmonious than in a traditional exploration.

How was your rehabilitation after prosthetic surgery?

After surgery you had to get out of bed and walk

- says Piroska.

The gymnast came, we did gymnastics and stairs on the third day. I had absolutely no pain. I would go to the next surgery with peace of mind because I had no pain at the time of surgery either.

In the first phase of rehabilitation, the use of elbow crutches is recommended and the patient is taught how to use them by the physiotherapist while still in the private hospital. Over time, these can be abandoned as soon as the specialist allows. After six weeks, the patient is almost completely free to move around, walk and swim.

In Red Riding Hood's case, after six weeks she was free to roam the forest.

I want to continue to travel, to go on excursions

My only recommendation to anyone who is going to have surgery is to go for it, don't be afraid of it and don't live in pain.
