Pre-operative physiotherapy
A pre-operative physiotherapy Unfortunately, the importance of these treatments is not emphasised today and patients awaiting surgery are not informed about them.
In the present case, we are talking about planned musculoskeletal interventions, such as knee replacement/ hip replacement, cruciate ligament replacement, rotator cuff injury.Regardless of which region is affected, the common feature of the given pathologies is the existing movement restriction, muscle weakness, deterioration of proprioception (joint position sense).
It is very important to be aware of the fact that if there is a narrowing of the joint, for example, implanting a prosthesis alone will not solve the problem. Nowadays, asphyxia is we have several treatment options: regular, professional physiotherapy, soft tissue manual techniques, flossing techniques, spitting, physiotherapy treatments.
The rate at which a particular movement restriction is allowed is a matter of congenital disposition, but also depends on the diagnosis, other underlying conditions, the the patient's attitude to treatment. In the period before surgery, we should set ourselves a goal to do our best to improve our condition. We must seize every day as an opportunity to arrive for surgery with as much movement as possible.
In addition, the stretchability of the soft tissues and muscle strength are very important. The better the muscle strength in the affected muscles, the faster the rate of improvement after surgery.
The proprioception (joint position sensation) begins in the pre-operative period and will continue to be of great importance in the future.
During this period, the patient learns to use the post-operative aid. They will receive useful advice and. psychologically prepared for the difficult period ahead.
Physical therapy after surgery
Post-operative physiotherapy is extremely important. We need to improve the loss of movement, muscle strength, muscle balance and proprioception (joint positioning) that has developed or remains. In this case, we have several options: physiotherapy, manual therapy, TAPE taping, flossing, sputum therapy. You can read about rehabilitation after surgery or injury in a separate post.
