Sudden onset, fast progressing problem
For me, it was all very sudden. I couldn't wait. I had nights with almost no sleep, I was in so much pain. ... My pain came on suddenly, in the space of 3 months, so much so that I couldn't walk, only with 2 crutches.
Some of our patients have hip joint wear that develops over many years, with milder symptoms at first. And there are others, like Mr. Szehr, who have developed severe symptoms within a few months. Every person and every case is different, so it's important to pay attention to your body and start in the early stages of complaints professionals ask for help.
Advanced wear and tear of the hip joint - can be corrected with hip replacement surgery
Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár summarised the patient's condition:
Lajos Szehr, 78 years old male patient, first presented to us in September 2022 with severe right hip pain. We found that there was very advanced wear and tear of the hip joint in the right hip joint. We therefore offered him hip replacement surgery. ....He agreed to this and 2-3 weeks after the examination the operation was scheduled.
From advanced hip joint wear in the case of pain and reduced mobility to such an extent that conservative therapy would be ineffective. At this point, the only and optimal a solution for implantation of a prosthesis means.
Cementless hip joint replacement
Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár about the cementless prosthesis implantation:
This was a cementless hip joint replacement. The hip joint was explored, the muscles were moved and after removing the damaged femoral head, the hip joint implant site was prepared. And we implanted a cementless system....It's a very early loading system.
It is becoming increasingly common and is used by experienced orthopaedic surgeons most commonly used is the cementless prosthesis, which is specially designed so that bone tissue can grow on it.
After surgery
I woke up after surgery and didn't have a single ache in the hospital for the 3 days I was there. There I was walking on crutches without a walker.
From the minute I woke up and had surgery I had no pain. Since then I have nothing but good things to say.
In the hospital, the you can stand up the day after hip replacement surgery and you can start the walk. The operated limb can then be weight-bearing with the full weight of the body, with the use of an assistive device (crutches, walking frame).
You can leave the hospital a few days (usually 3 to 5 days) after the operation and continue your recovery at home.
The importance of physiotherapy
During your post-operative hospital stay, your BMM physiotherapist helps the patient to start walking, climbing stairs. Physical therapy continues after the patient leaves hospital, to ensure the patient recovers as quickly and fully as possible.
Dr. Szabolcs Gáspár summarised post-operative recovery and the role of physiotherapy: summarised post-operative recovery and the role of physiotherapy:
We called him back 8 days after the surgery, removed the skin clips....and asked him to continue with the physiotherapy he had started.
He came back for a check-up in the 6th week after the surgery, and was walking without any aids.....and we encouraged him to continue with the physiotherapy. This is a very important thing as he came to us with a very restricted joint movement. He was in so much pain already that he had almost minimal flexion and extension in his hip in September. In January he was able to walk pain free without any aids.
In our private clinic, the well-being of our patients is our priority. We offer our patients the opportunity to walk the path to a full recovery with the doctor they like best.
Patient satisfaction is valuable feedback for us to continue our work and help more people.
I recommend it to anyone who has this problem. Don't be afraid! I am very grateful to the doctor!
