What are the solutions for treating foreskin stenosis without surgery?
Foreskin stenosis primarily affects young children, but it can also cause problems in adolescence and even adulthood. By the age of 13-14 years, about 58% of children will have resolved foreskin constriction, and about 98 % by the age of 17-18 years.
It can be treated conservatively with foreskin exercises and steroid cream. If there is inflammation, it is essential to treat it, for example with Betadine. In severe cases, medical help is needed. In young children, surgery should be avoided if possible, as anaesthesia can be dangerous in very young children, so while it is possible, try to manage it manually. If the bunion is inflamed or sore, it is even more important to clean it more thoroughly than usual, but avoid soaking it, showering is recommended, avoid prolonged exposure to water, and do not take the child to the beach until it is completely healed.
The foreskin has two variants
Physiological phimosis, cellular adhesion of the foreskin of the foreskin to the acorn. This is easily remedied, especially at a young age, and can be treated manually. E.g. with steroid cream or foreskin exercises, foreskin stretching, regular back stretching, thorough washing of the foreskin area. Young boys should be taught how to wash thoroughly when bathing, how to backrub and also wash under the skin, and regular backrub exercises to avoid more severe constriction.
And pathological phimosis, which is a more serious condition and is most likely to be corrected by surgery. In this case, a scarred ring can be seen when the skin is pulled back, which can cause problems and pain when urinating, or if the foreskin is distended and urine is slow to pass, this can also cause serious problems. This process can lead to infection, so it is important to seek medical advice. Usually, manual treatment should be attempted first, and surgery should be considered as a last resort. In the case of foreskin surgery, circumcision is only performed in extreme cases. In Hungary, aesthetic circumcision is not officially performed. Even after surgery, increased attention should be paid to hygiene and disinfection with Betadine
Short foreskin brakes
At rest it is not a problem, but erections can be painful if the foreskin is shorter. This can definitely be resolved by surgery to avoid sexual problems later on, or in severe cases, even a rupture of the foreskin, which can cause severe pain and take longer to heal.
When should you see a doctor?
- If you can barely or not at all pull back the foreskin
- If scarring is experienced under the foreskin
- If it is painful to urinate, and the foreskin is distended and difficult to empty
- If you experience pain during erection
- If you experience inflammation or discharge
When I was at university, a friend asked my father, who is also a doctor, to examine my elderly mother because she hadn't been feeling well for a few days. Since I was a medical doctor, I accompanied him. I don't remember what was wrong with the aunt, only that my father sat down by her bedside, took her hand and did nothing special, just asked a few brief questions and listened. He watched every little movement of the aunt! It was a defining experience! I love watching children! When a little one comes in to me, I don't immediately start examining him, I just sit him down - either just like that or on mum or dad's lap - and talk to him. On the one hand, the child's anxiety is relieved, on the other hand, I can observe the child's behaviour and it's much easier for me to find out what's wrong and how I can help the child so that, even when he or she leaves the surgery, we are still on good terms.
