Ankle sprains or ankle hikes?

The ankle hike
The ankle hike, is the second most common musculoskeletal injury after low back pain. The ankle joint plays a major role in movement and is subject to a lot of stress every day, as it has to adapt to all types of ground. Thus, the active (muscles, tendons) and passive (ligaments) stabilisation structures have to follow a fairly rapid and precise alignment even during walking. If either of these structures is weakened, there is a greater chance of injury.
Stages of bushwalking
1st degree
In this case, the ligaments are stretched without tearing, there is minimal or no swelling or residual pain, function is usually normal or minimally impaired, and full recovery takes 2-3 weeks.
Grade 2
Moderate level of deformity, characterised by more intense pain levels, localised swelling, ankle joint stiffness and possible partial ligament rupture. May return to normal activity after 2-3 months of rehabilitation.
Grade 3
It is characterised by the most severe case of injury and severe pain, which, if there is nerve damage, may decrease after the injury. Large swelling, intense joint stiffness and restriction of movement follow. Complete disruption of the external ligamentous system and joint capsule causes the ankle to feel loose and unstable, which in some cases may require surgical treatment. A return to a normal lifestyle is realistic after about 4 months.
Treatment of bush walking
During the specialist examination, the doctor makes an accurate diagnosis and decides on the course of further treatment based on the physical examination and imaging scans (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound). Treatment of ankle sprains - according to the grades mentioned above - is always done on medical advice, which is usually conservative.
In the acute phase, the RICE method is used (rest, cooling, compression and padding). During this period, it is already worth seeking the help of a physiotherapist to reduce the swelling and pain as soon as possible (ultrasound, laser treatment, Kinesio tape, mobilisation) and to start the recovery with physiotherapy.
It is important to note, as with all injuries and fixations, that the joint's sense of position (proprioception) is reduced and must be restored to allow correct everyday movement patterns to be performed, thus preventing the development of another or a new injury.
As a preventive measure, it is recommended to increase joint stability through exercise, which can be helped by choosing the right footwear or wearing insoles.
The bokaficam
About Bokaficam when the joint head that forms the ankle joint leaves the articular groove. If this does not happen, it is called a sprain (distortion). Pure ankle sprains are very rare, usually associated with a fracture and occur in the upper ankle joint.
During this type of injury, the ankle joint usually turns inwards, but in rarer cases it may also turn outwards. Most often, accidents occur during a misstep or while getting off a vehicle.
Ankle sprains and twists occur mainly during sports or activities where lateral movements and sudden changes in speed or direction of movement are common, such as basketball, football, handball, hockey, etc. They are also common in children and older people due to muscle weakness, vision problems or imbalance. The recovery time for ankle sprains can take from 6 weeks to several months.
Bokaficam treatment
The bokaficam treatment requires immediate medical attention to repair the joint as soon as possible and to minimise damage to the circulation. This requires 4-6 weeks of immobilisation followed by gradual functional recovery with the help of a physiotherapist.
In the functional phase, the gradual recovery of ankle movement requires adequate strength of the lower leg and foot muscles. The long-term goal is to regain stability and balance through muscle cooperation.
